Robert Wiene’s THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI
In conjunction with the Carolina Theatre of Durham, Mallarme presents The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari with original chamber music composed by Eric Schwartz. This film catapulted German Expressionism into film history. Director Robert Wiene crafted a nightmare in which light, shadow and substance are abstracted, a world in which a demented doctor and a carnival sleepwalker perpetrate a series of ghastly murders in a small community. Caligari will be presented with live chamber music (Bo Newsome, oboe; Suzanne Rousso, viola; Nathan Leyland, cello; Jacqueline Nappi, piano; Andrea Edith Moore, soprano).
