A poignant, challenging, and ultimately uplifting event, the concert will feature three works by one of choral music’s newest leading composers, Jake Runestad, plus music by Beethoven and others. It will also feature student musicians from Panther Creek High School in Cary (Brad Bensen director) and a string quartet from the Mallarme Chamber Players.
The concert will open with Runestad’s A Silence Haunts Me, a dramatic exploration of Beethoven’s Heiligenstadt Testament, the letter in which the young Beethoven expresses his despair over his impending deafness and resolve to press on in fulfillment of his artistic destiny, and then connect to our own present-day challenges with Please Stay, a musical plea for suicide prevention and awareness. Also on the concert will be Runestad’s beautiful and inspiring The Hope of Loving.
Tickets: $25/$22 students and children are free
