What’s in a Song? Join singer/songwriter/cellist Shana Tucker and pianist Amy Bormet in learning the ins and outs of writing a song.
Take a journey into the wide-open world of songwriting. This concert will delve into the songwriting process, including: Establishing a Groove (tempo, rhythm), Song Elements (melody, chorus, bridge, etc.) and Storytelling Through Song (adding melody to words and vice-versa).
Shana Tucker is a cellist and singer-songwriter who performs all over the US. After a 5-year stint as a Cirque de Soleil performer in the show KA, she is back home in NC! As an advocate for women in music, Amy K. Bormet created the Washington Women in Jazz Festival in 2011, and continues to serve as executive director. Her latest project, Ephemera, is a platform for her new art songs with improvisation. In addition to her performance career, Amy is a prolific composer, frequently combining improvisation with concert music.
