In-school Residencies and Concerts

Mallarmé musicians have a reputation for being engaging and dynamic, whether we're making bamboo flutes with a classroom of third-graders or performing classical music for an entire student body in an auditorium. Our residencies and educational concerts are designed with input from each school or community with whom we work. We engage children in our programs through active participation. Our residencies are curriculum-based in the subjects of history, culture and literature. Through these residencies and performances we use music to communicate, educate and inspire our audiences. In the 2010-11 school year we will be offering:

- A bamboo flute making/ Asian culture residency or workshop (grades 3-8)
- NEW Singing/ Songwriting workshop with Shana Tucker, cellist and singer of CHAMBERSOUL (grades 3-12)

NEW: Interactive OPEN REHEARSALS (4-6 artists) Appropriate for grades 6-12 | Program Length: 1 hour Invite Mallarmé musicians to your school to observe them in rehearsal for their upcoming concert. Musicians will choose one work from their Sunday afternoon concert program to intensely rehearse and show students the techniques involved in playing together and rehearsing effectively. Issues of rhythm, intonation, articulation and style will all be addressed. Mallarmé will also provide the class with 10 complimentary tickets to the respective concert. Available programs and dates:

- The Challenge of Performing Chamber Music with Strings and Winds - Mozart Horn Quintet (Concert: April 10, 2011 @ 3 pm)
Each program includes preparatory materials that focus on curriculum integration and listening and writing activities.
Master Classes, Clinics and Sectionals: Mallarmé artists and guest artists routinely go into schools and work with students of all ages either one-on-one or in groups. If you would like a special artist or are looking for assistance in a specific instrument or skill, most of our musicians have extensive teaching experience.
